Abs form Question | MaeveMadden

Abs form Question

  • Morning Queens.

Happy Wednesday . Hope you are all having a fab week.

I have a question about ab work and my form which I am hoping someone might be able to help with. Whenever I am doing ab work that involves leg raises or any leg moves I always only feel it on the front of my thighs and nothing on my abs. Is this normal or is it just because my form is wrong?

    Thanks in advance queens xxx

  • Hey Cora! That's totally normal. It just means that you are lifting with your legs rather than your stomach muscles which is why your legs can hurt or tire.

For the like of leg raises you would be using your hip flexors as well as your core so sometimes the can get overworked. Make sure you do plenty of hip stretches to open up the hips when you can, make sure your back is flat and do what Maeve says and laugh out loud when doing the exercise to engage your core! You might sound like a mad woman but it'll make a difference lol! You can put your hands under your bum or a towel to help flatten your back too - I have a high arch in my back and find that this helps for some exercises 😊

    Hopefully this helps!!

  • @Cora Savage I completely agree with@Beth Haughian I always support my lower back by putting my hands under my bed. I've always had the problem of my back arching and I just can't stop it no matter how much I engage my core. As Beth said focus on your core being right as you lift your legs so you're not using the leg muscles to do all the lifting. I tend to lift my shoulders slightly to really engage the core like Maeve does for the advanced move. Really makes me focus on the strength in my stomach muscles. You'll get there, it does take time to get your mind thinking about your core all the time. Hence Maeve shouts "tighten that core" with her fire face 🔥 😬 x

  • Hands under my bed haha, BUM! So funny! 😂 id crawl under my bed if I could 😂

  • Thanks girls. I'm going to try putting my hands under my bum. I defo arch my back doing ab work so hopefully this helps.

  • @Beth Haughian I have that high arch too and I've broken my cocsyx twice!! Finding my tail bone hurting this week more than usual so might need to give it a break with a little tush Cush of some sort

  • @Anne Hamilton Black oh the pain!!! I bruised mine once and that was bad enough let alone a break ouch!! Definitely, just depends on the exercises we're doing... better to rest or take a down a notch than to make it worse!
