Under the weather

  • Hey queens hope you are all having an amazing week :) I havent been to well this week, actually for the last couple of weeks. It just got a bit worse Tuesday. I went to the doctor yesterday and I have some gastric bug. It has been really hard not being able to join into all the workouts but I know its important for my body to rest. I really struggle when I feel like like this as its my biggest fear (I know so silly) but i have a fear of sick for as long as i can remember and i think that makes me feel worse as i overthink it in my brain!

what do you guys do when you are faced with your biggest fear?

  • Hi Alana! Aw I hope you feel better soon! I'm an over thinker too so I'm not much help there but hopefully after some R&R you'll be back to yourself xx

  • Oh @Alana Moore you poor thing, I really hope you feel better soon, and I'm glad you took the step of going to the doctor as it's so important to get the proper diagnosis when something lingers for a while. In the last few years I've had chest infections on a recurring basis, like 3 or 4 times a year, requiring antibiotics and sometimes steroids and I just got knocked sideways. What I learnt is that it is so important to just rest at that time - easier said that done I know!- buuut your body needs to focus on fighting any bugs off, and if you exercise it is going to get distracted by muscle recovery etc so actually in the long run your recovery from the illness might end up taking longer, so it is just so important to take the time for your body. - You don't make massive progress in a couple of weeks and similarly you don't lose massive progress in a couple of weeks either.

Now while all that makes sense again I know it can be hard to miss out, so I try to make the downtime as interesting as possible with some good books; if you let us know if you have Netflix/Prime/Disney whatever we can start a list of shows or films that we recommend; also, sleep sleep sleep as much as possible as that might help too! Try to eat nutritious even though I know probably all you want to do (if you're like me!) is binge, but same thing again if your body is trying to break down processed foods that again takes away from recovery mode (I'm not saying don't treat yourself at all, you need a lil something), lots of water. And obviously whatever your doctor recommened.

The thing about facing your biggest fear is that actually that is how we build resilience. Next challenge you face in life you'll be like, "nah I got this- sure didn't I just face my biggest fear recently, I stared it down and look at me now still standing".

If you have the Headspace app they have a fabulous playlist with a continuous loop of tunes by Hans Zimmerman, it is for focus but I find it so soothing and comforting, so even if you don't have headspace but go to youtube and find some nice soothing music to help calm

Hope this is of some help, and please reach out further if you need!

  • @Leonie Mcnulty Thank you :)

  • @Sharon Scully Oh Sharon thanks so much for that lovely message :) I know poeple go through much worse things but sometimes it can get scary when you never feel a change. But i think the tablets are starting to help which is good. At night I think i get more anxious because i over think it but hopefully it will go soon. And even just sharing how i feel makes me feel a bit better and it was so nice for you to take your time and be so helpful. I have netflix but it has gotten to the stage where there is nothing good left to watch!

  • @Alana Moore oh Alana I hope you are ok and if there is anything we can do please pop us an email.. Alawys a fear over whats to come, but day one of being on the right track is better than day 100 of not know whats going on.  Always best to get to the doctor tbh I need to go myself, my tummy has been playing up and pains in my side not sure whats the issue but its only been about 10 days so gonna see how I feel this weekend.  I LOVE the doctor, hate the dentist but love going to the doctor, I am always so fasinated at how amazing the body is at healing and how we can heal when we know whats wrong, its almost like when you mentally know whats goin on you can get better.. Keep us updated

  • @Alana Moore Aw Alana I really hope you feel better soon! ❤️ Definitely take your time to recover queen and we'll be right here whenever you feel up to coming back to the workouts ❤️❤️ Sending lots of love queen x

  • @Alana Moore oooh Queen, so sorry to hear this!!!! I hope you have a speedy recovery honey!! I know being sick is not pleasant at all but I'm glad u went to doctor!!!! Like all of us, we all the fears and they can be really hard to manage and deal with but what I would do, is try to think about what you can do once ur better.... get back to workouts,  feeling strong and happy!!! Keep that end goal in sight and it might help a little! We will all be here for you when you are feeling better and join the classes again. Any day if feel really bad, always reach out here,  we got you girl xxx

  • @Alana Moore awh Alana sorry to see this xx I always think diagnosis/doctor visit helps for reassurance and once I have the info I can put a plan in place.

Facing fears are very hard and especially in lockdown everything seems harder to take. You definitely did the right thing going to doc and hopefully each day will get easier xx

Also re anxiety I get bad bouts and I've learned to let myself not feel the pressure and even if I wash my face and brush my hair that day I have done something. Night time is hard doll but we are here and dm or pm me anytime xxx

  • @Alana Moore Yes people go through worse, but it is all personal so never be too concerned about that! Great that you think the tablets are starting the help, and hopefully that improves even more as the week goes on.

Now I have some pretty random Netflix recommendations that you may not have seen so worth me throwing them out there:

Friday Night Dinner (schoolboy humour similar to the Inbetweeners but even better; it continues on 4oD too. Short episodes)

Rita (Based in Denmark with subtitles, but is really funny. Short episodes)

Lovesick (English, it is absolutely hilarious. Short episodes too!)

The Letdown, also Workin Moms (both about new Moms struggling, but is really funny too)

Dynasty (Pure American trash but easy watching)

Virgin River, Chesapeake Shore (More American smaltz but also both easy watching)

The Night Watch (about an American hospital, less gritty drama than ER, quite good in terms of relationships etc)

Back to Life (English, about a woman released from prison but is really subtly funny and thoughtul too)

Offspring (Australian, follows a slightly disfunctional doctor and her family. A nice watch)

The more obvious ones that you may or may not have seen:

    Atypical

    Sherlock

    Grace & Frankie

    Sex Education

    Mindhunter

    Bodyguard

    Narcos

For simple watching & rewatching: Schitts Creek, Derry Girls, The IT Crowd.

I know you didn't ask but hopefully it is a small bit of help!!!

Take care of yourself, and check back in with us if you want or need. I'll be thinking of you!

  • @Vicky Baker Vicky thank you so much for that kind message it means a lot and really appreciate it :)  I know its mad but after reading these it made me feel much better tonight so thank you x

  • @Alana Moore Don't even ask me how I discovered a lot of these shows! I know you didn't ask but I knew I'd have some in there that you may not have seen! When I'm not feeling well I like the short, funny ones that don't take too much concentration but still are a distraction. Also sometimes it can help to put on a good old soppy weepy film that just makes you cry a bit and it can be a bit of a release!

Take care, take it easy, and we will see ya back on the Venga bus when you are ready. Feel free to reach out at any stage at all for any thing at all. We've got your back x
