Advice on fire hydrants, donkey kicks etc

  • Hey queens, I'm looking for advice or any tips as to why I'm struggling with these types of exercises. I can do them no problem without any pain and I try my best to make sure my hips stay straight throughout but I catch myself feeling it as much or maybe even more in my stationary leg/hip than I do in the leg/hip doing the movement. I have tried to make sure I am focusing on the side of the leg doing the movement but still no luck. Maybe I'm leaning too much? Really not sure!

  • @Hannah Shackles Hi Queen - thats quite common and you will definitely feel it on the supporting side.

Try to focus on keeping your weight even through both your hands and your hips flat as much as you can - like you were trying to balance a tray on your lower back! After that squeeze your glutes and off you go!

Trust your body everybody feels exercises differently and it may be that some of your stabiliser muscles are a little weaker than your glutes! Sounds like you are doing great though! 😘

  • @Sinead Corcoran Thank you for your reply! That would make sense, I was told I had weak hips when being fitted for running shoes in college 😅  I will definitely remember to imagine the tray next time doing them!
