Pcos specific diet | MaeveMadden

Pcos specific diet

  • Hey girls, new member here! Been trying to shift a little weight for a while now, have tried calorie restriction and it works but extremely slowly for me, even when quite low cals. I have pcos and have read a lot online about needing to follow a keto/ extremely low carb diet to see weight loss with pcos due to insulin resistance. I'm a big believer in calorie in vs out and the numbers with it, but wondering if there is something to this because of his long the process is taking! Anyone have any experience/ advice on the topic? Thanks!!xx

  • @Paula Mccool Welcome Paula!! Isn't it so difficult and frustrating when you put in such an effort and the result can be felt to be minimal due to other factors like pcos. @Maeve Madden is our queen of everything (obviously!) but I know in the past she has spoken out about issues for her with pcos (and has even written a book on it, see amazon link below!) so hopefully she may have some advice on it that could help you out! (The forum is quiet busy these days, so if this gets missed and you don't get a reply here I would suggest maybe mailing Maeve). It's not an area I have any specific knowledge on at all, so for now can only offer general support along the lines of - well done for reaching out, and well done on starting your QDQ journey- no matter the outcome I guarantee you are going to love it, who knew exercising could be so much fun on such a regular basis!!!!

  • Hi! Jumping in quickly & can write more tomorrow, but pleeeease don't think PCOS requires a super restrictive diet!  Hopefully Queen Maeve will pop in, as she's been open about living with PCOS (that's actually how I found her :) )

I really recommend following these two nutritionists on insta: @the.pcos.dietitian and  @endocrinenutritionist  They are both so helpful and really cut through all the rhetoric.

I struggled terribly with extreme calorie restriction trying to loose weight with PCOS and would just cut more and more out, loosing weight initially, then trying to survive on way too little but maintaining weight. Demoralising! For me, the real game changer was making peace with & listening to my body; eating primarily whole foods, watching sugar intake/balance sugars with fat and protein, lots of water, exercising for pleasure instead of punishment, long walks daily, resistance training, etc.

Sending love to you - I know how daunting it is & just how much conflicting information is out there! xx

  • @Paula Mccool welcome Queen, how r u doing? I am going to be 100% honest with I don't actually know anything about pcos so regarding dietary advise I am no good, however Maeve herself is a finger so tag her to ur thread as she'll sort u. Also we do have a Nutritionist coming on board this week I think so keep an eye out as u will definitely get great advise from her also. I hope u r enjoying Queens Don't Quit. Any other questions ua may have shout away & u will get sorted. Have a great Week 2 Paula 👑👑👑❤️❤️❤️

  • @Elise Karam great advise Queen ❤️

  • @Sharon Scully  I had no idea Maeve had written something about it before! Will definitely give that a look, thanks a million!!

  • @Elise Karam this is so helpful Elise thanks, will start looking into those accounts in the morning! Relieved to hear you had a similar, as I'm not sure I can live off 1200 cals the rest of my life to maintain weight loss 😂 going to check out the link posted by someone else now and these accounts and hopefully feel less clueless!

  • @Audrey Browne thank you Audrey, will definitely keep an eye for the nutritionist as I think that will give me a good basis for trying to create a more healthy less calorie focused routine. Already getting great advice on these replies ❤️

  • @Paula Mccool caveat it may not be specifically be related to it, but I believe she does address it! Maeve is so open about her journey with it, she is an inspiration as to how she talks about women's bodies, struggles etc it is really refreshing

(so glad @Elise Karam is able to point you in some actual directions!!)

Well done for reaching out and hope you get lots of assistance and guidance!
