Pre workout food | MaeveMadden

Pre workout food

  • Hi everyone! Just hoping for some advice. I completed my first full workout out and the first of the challenge, I hydrated well but I thought afterwards I'd vomit into my cereal!! Probably a sign of a good session, but I did my workout on an empty stomach as I wasnt sure what sort of food to eat beforehand!

I have eaten the same breakfast for years as it agrees with my IBS but it's too heavy to eat pre workout so would anyone have suggestions? I'm the type of person to eat the minute I get up so I dont think I could keep up the workout starving!!

Any suggestions welcome to a newbie!

  • @Melissa Reilly Hey Melissa, welcome to the QDQ Family! ❤️ I actually train fasted but I know that's not for everyone and some prefer to eat before hand like yourself. I know Maeve usually suggests to have something that includes carbs, some protein and a little sugar to get you through the workout. Maybe try some oats (overnight, baked) with some fruit or some peanut butter on toast and see how you get on?

Hopefully some Queens who eat pre workout can help with some more suggestions too, hope that helps 😊 xx

  • @Melissa Reilly Hey again Melissa! Well done on getting through your first Monday of the challenge! I have to say I am the same as Gerogie, I usually only have a coffee in the morning before my workouts but previous to that I used to eat breakfast pretty much straight away when Id get up so I know what you mean. I think the foods Georgie suggested would be good to try and also maybe some yoghurt with berries or a banana perhaps? I know Maeve does mention toast and peanut butter a lot too, it would give you loads of energy for the workouts! Might be worth reaching out to @Maeve Madden or Sinead Corcoran who does pilates for some other suggestions either on here or Instagram.

Sorry I cant be of more help on this subject.

    X

  • @Ashley Jordan thank you for the reply! I've never done a workout at that hour before🙈 have to say a few spoons into my breakfast and the wanting to vomit passed!! My poor body didnt know what happened. I might try to eat something small and have it prepared from the night before!

Have to say I've such an attitude change today, even when I did my food shop, I was literally saying dont buy that you'll eat it and maeve cant fix that😜

  • @Georgie Dillon thank you for the reply! I'm afraid I'm not too up on my nutrition and I'm such a fussy eater, but I'll have a look at some overnight oats etc and see what I can have. Maybe I just felt sick from the shock😆 I'll try it again in the morning fasting and if it's the same then I'll try something small!

  • @Melissa Reilly it does take a bit of getting used and trust me we have all been there. I remember starting last year and honestly thought I wasn't going to be able to continue I felt so unfit and my body was in agony for the week after.

You'll be amazed at how quick your body adjusts to the new routine.

It might be a case of trying a few different ways to find what suits you best ie. fasting or eating something small beforehand. You'll get there don't worry.  X

  • @Melissa Reilly Aww you're welcome Melissa! Let's hope it wasn't the shock 😂 Yes definitely just see what works for you and if fasted isn't for you try something small. I think it is very much trial and error and once you fall into a routine you'll be absolutley fine 😊 x
