Alternative moves

  • Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows any good 'back friendly' alternatives to moves like burpees and mountian climbers? Im quite tall, with a weak core as I am a beginner but I don't have a great lower back anyway. I really find these moves put a lot of strain on my lower back and my body is saying no!

I'm hoping over time as I get stonger these moves will become easier but at the moment they don't suit me. If anyone has any other ideas I'd really appreicate it!

    Thanks :)

  • @Shauna O’Malley Hey Queen, is this Is my class???  I always suggest instead of burpees to try the full body extension up onto the toes, a jump jack or the low impact jumping jack which is the side step using the arms.

For the mountain climbers , the bear hold kick backs or try a few reps rest and then join back in..

You will get there queen we are all beginners in the beginning so keep focused you got this girl

  • @Maeve Madden Hi Maeve, thanks so much for getting back to me. I did the Ding Ding Drills class yesterday evening and found a few of the moves like these a struggle. So I will try those other suggestions instead. Aside from that, I am loving the workouts so much! thanks again! :)

  • @Shauna O’Malley I think years working as Dental nurses has our poor backs ruined Shauna! I still get occasional tightness in my lower back too but not from burpees or mountain climbers, mostly deadlifts followed by side lunges, they are the hardest on my back. Hopefully trying some of the moves Maeve recommended will help and over time your core will get stronger taking the pressure of your back.

  • @Ashley Jordan I know what you mean about the work 😅 it will be worse as a Hyg! But yes, those two moves in particular seem to bother my back and my hips click and pop when I do lunges and mountain climbers 😂 like what age am I ! God help us ! X

  • @Ashley Jordan @Shauna O’Malley I'm with you ladies on the lower back tightness, between my lower back and my hips I do be about to run to the hills mad lol. I'd suggest just taking it easy Shauna, even now after doing QDQ for well over a year sometimes my hips just say absolutely not to mountain climbers or bicycle crunches so for the mountain climbers I will either just take it really slow or do a bear hold! Definitely don't be ashamed to take it down a level if you're feeling any tightness or niggle! Sometimes I tend to do jacks instead of burpees when I'm feeling quite tight or if my joints are at me! Keep going queen, you're smashing it x
