Hip popping | MaeveMadden

Hip popping

  • I've been doing the workouts here for a few months and love them! But I've noticed over the last few months my left hip is popping whenever I do certain movements, mainly anything when I'm on my back, lying down! It's not painful but the sound.....oh god it turns my stomach🤮

@Sinead Corcoran I did pilates from monday this morning and I really felt it when I was making the circles with my foot&scissors motion, again it not painful but it stops me completing a circle. I'm just wondering is this something quite common, can work on it myself or do I need a physio?

  • I'm having the exact same problem, especially when I'm doing stuff like leg raises or flutters, lying on my back. Would love to know if there's some way to modify those kinds of exercises so I'm getting the full effect of them on my abs, without having my hips popping??? 😫

  • @Orla Hill good to know I'm not the only one!! It's so annoying and i hate the feeling of it!! I do notice if I tilt my leg out a bit it doesn't pop as much🤔

  • @Melissa Reilly @Orla Hill I'm a physio so can help with this. Without a physical examination it's hard to decide what's causing this for you specifically but as long as it's not painful, don't stress too much. Usually this is more to do with muscular dysfunction, incorrect muscle pattern activation or inadquate strength. I would suggest keeping those leg circles within the range of no popping sensation and focusing on your technique and making the range that you are doing the best version it can be. If it becomes painful, don't push it and then I'd say get it checked by a physio. Of course I'm going to say ideally you go to one anyways as they can advise you if there are specific things to avoid or for you to work on individually. The fact you've noticed Melissa that tilting your leg out tells me it's most likely a muscular thing so you might notice this changes as your strength improves.

Hope that helps ladies! Remember, don't push through pain! Modify your range and as your strength improves, you should be able to increase that! Good luck! Sinead might have some little tricks too (but it won't let me tag her).

  • @Sarah Theriault aw thank you so much for the help, I really appreciate it! I will definitely take your advice and if it changes to pain I'll definitely get it looked at. In fairness pilates and a few of the leg raises seems to be the only thing setting it off so definitely some I can work on/put up with!

    Thank you so much ❤
