Smears

  • Hi ladies

Hope all are keeping well and the bodies have recovered from Sunday!! I'm still on a high after it all!

I just wanted to take a wee moment to remind those in Ireland that despite Covid it is still possible to get a smear done (aka cervical check), so if you have one due or over-due please please please don't put it off!

You don't need to go to your own GP if they currently are not performing them. Dr.Doireann O'Leary has a highlight on her insta of places that are providing it.

I had mine done today and while of course it is a bit uncomfortable that is preferrable to what may occur if I don't get screened. I know Ireland has a bit of a bad history in the recent past, but please try not let that put you off either!

  • @Sharon Scully great post - and i echo, anyone in England should also get booked in. I understand some surgeries have said they have stopped doing them but if you call up to complaint they will book you in.

I have had 2 already this year (1st one was inconclusive and still waiting on the 2nd...nervous but fingers crossed) and yes it's uncomfortable and afterwards you feel like you've got period pain - but it's so much better than the alternative.

Like Sharon has said, please get booked in! And if you have worries or concerns about it then this is the right place to talk about them :) we all need to look after eachother!! xx

  • @Tori Clarke Everything crossed for you!  Hopefully the second test comes back all clear. It is nerve-racking waiting, so hopefully you hear back soon.

  • @Sharon Scully great reminder honey and so so important!!!! I always get mine checked, I had an abnormal reading once and ever since that I never miss it!!!! Thanks for sharing this queen xxx

  • @Tori Clarke best of luck with the results tori, crossing everything 4 you xxx

  • @Sharon Scully great shout out Sharon. I just had mine done yesterday and while uncomfortable I would never not get it done. Like you said, when I initially was due my smear my GP clinic advised to call back in a month or so as they weren't performing them due to infection levels. So glad it's done now and waiting on results. Very worthwhile thread queens x

  • @Sharon Scully such a good post Sharon! They're so important and of course they're uncomfortable but they give such good peace of mind! I love Dr. Doireann! X

  • @Tori Clarke thinking of you Tori! All the best with your results. Fingers and toes crossed! X

  • @Sharon Scully Such an important message! I remember being so nervous before my first smear, I had built it up so much in my head. It's such a quick process though and SO important! Thank you for raising the topic ❤

  • Great reminder Sharon! I'm well overdue - need to ring my GP tomorrow. I always get so nervous over a smear, but they're so important  x

  • @Sharon Scully Yes girl preach! England also still doing them, I had my first one a month ago! 😊

  • Thanks for the reminder. Its So important.

  • Girlies! I got my results and, although they didn't find anything abnormal, because they had to do 2 tests they want me to go back next year as a precaution.

I am so releaved nothing was found and that they are being cautious by testing again in a shorter time period than usual.

It is so important to go ladies - so if you haven't already, this is your reminder (or a sign!) that you need to get booked in! Don't let the covid situation put this off.

    Have a lovely Monday! x
